JIMILU was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA, the daughter of two musicians. She grew up in Washington, DC. and began her art education at the age of 7.
She received a Bachelor of Art degree in 1953 from George Washington University and their Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1971.
JIMILU was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson to serve on the National Council of ART 1966 – 1972. In that same year she began sculpting in Pietrasanta, Italy. She now reproduces her sculpture both at the Fonderia d‘Arte Stefan in Treviso Italy and the New Arts Foundry in Baltimore, Md. USA.
Her aspiration is to create sculpture which stimulates significant conversations between it and those who view it.
